Textile Exhibits

Saturday was dedicated to seeing all the textile exhibits of the festival, Verona Tessile.  Thank goodness it was a gorgeous sunny day and perfect for walking around town.

There were antique quilts from the Amish community.

There were contemporary quilts from Joe Cumnningham (USA)

There were traditional gems! Hand pieced and quilted from Verona.

Nice to see a young crowd interested.

Margaret Fabrizio (in her very late 80's!) exhibited her work too. She is from San Francisco.

There were some hands-on experiences.

My personal favorite was Joe Cunningham's Autoworld (2015)

People picked up a quick lunch- panino and drink- while heading to the historical buildings to see the international exhibits.

It was good to sit down and relax during dinner time. Our legs needed a rest after all that walking.

Textile Workshop

Today was our dying workshop up at the Ad Maiora studios.

First the big walk up the hill.

Then lots of stitching before the dying part.

Marina concentrated on showing how the stitch size, the thread size, the tightness of stitch and the length of stitch plays a part in the final design.

Then the surprises!

Amazing teacher...as always.

We had lunch up at the studio. Jenni made fabulous orrecchiete! Hand made, of course!

Recipe from her family from Puglia. She made it with the traditional sauce- cimi di rape and anchovies, onions.

Better than delicious!!

The weather suddenly turned and Barb and I made it into the museum just in time.

We managed to see a few more exhibits from Verona Tessile before getting together for an apericena.

Verona Trip 2019

The adventures begin!

The 11 travellers arrived in Verona today trickling in at different times. I spent the day going back and forth from the airport to the Roman area of Verona.

Everyone seems very excited about the location of their apartments and the city itself. Verona is big enough to be interesting but small enough to be quaint.

All went to bed early. We start tomorrow with a city tour at 10 A.M.!

Press Conference this Morning

The 5th edition of Verona Tessile is on its way!

Today, a group of us were at the municipal building for the press conference. I have to say how amazing we are!! The association has 120 members. Everyone did something to help organize. A real team effort.

There will surely be an article in tomorrow's paper.

Verona Trip Preparations

The Verona trip is filling up!!

So far, I have 9 people who have sent a deposit already, officially reserving their spot.

San Giorgio

The maximum size of my group is 12. That's a good number for the apartments, for making new friends, for sharing the activities with and for ambiance.

Verona is a gorgeous city; small enough to be quaint but large enough to be interesting.

Ponte Pietra

If you have been following the info about my Verona trip over the years, you know we also visit all exhibits in the textile festival, Verona Tessile. Preparations for that festival are well under way. The hosting group, Ad Maiora, is working very hard. Their 5th edition is going to be great. You'll see a variety of textile styles from an international group of makers and artists. The exhibits (so far 9 exhibits confirmed) are hung in historical buildings- very nice from an architectural perspective. This experience is added to my own itinerary of classes, touring, wine tasting, cooking class, gelato eating, aperitivo sharing...can't wait!!!

Ponte Scaligero

The juried show news is up for those wanting to submit a piece but I am afraid the rest of their site hasn't been updated yet. I am sure they will get to that over the next months as plans solidify.
