Landscapes

The McMichael Gallery has put together the photography of Edward Burtynsky (1955-) with that of Ansel Adam (1902-1984).

Both photograph landscape.

Adams is best known for his dramatic views of Yosemite National Park in USA- his still life, panoramic views and distant landscapes.

Burtynsky's photographs engage us to think about our relationship to nature.

Both photographers' works compliment the permanent collection of the Group of Seven -a group of  Canadian landscape painters from 1920 -1933.

The exhibit goes till September 29, 2013. Make a day of it and plan to have lunch in Kleinburg.

It all looks very professional.

Next step: Bringing them down to the Toronto Convention Centre for the PDAC (Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada) from March 3 to 6, 2013.

(note: This is a private conference and the exhibit will not be open to the public...you could come to Verona and see the exhibit there...just a thought.)

John Willard's Saturday Class

I took a class from quilter/textile artist, John Willard. He is a very big Canadian name.

What to bring to class? Wild fabrics! Lots of brights, dots, stripes, pattern!

definitely out of my comfort zone!

The workshop was very "free". Nothing was sketched or planned. We just went with it.

Mine is not quite done. I would like to add a strip of orange.

None of the students' works were the same (how refreshing!). Everything depended on their choice of colours and fabric.

I liked following John around the classroom while he advised the students. He has so much knowledge and experience.

I learned about fabric and pattern and colour and how to mitre borders properly and a new way to finish the edges for my art work.

I made a new friend.

Plus it was a really fun day!

Dorothy Caldwell is a very well known textile artist.

She was born in the USA but lives in Ontario, Canada.
