It is always a pleasure seeing the works. There is a wide spectrum of styles, techniques and materials used. I got to see things other countries are working on and it is inspiring to me as a maker myself.

There were 134 artists and lucky me, I got to see a piece from my favourite Judith Martin!

The program booklet was also really well done, as always. Nicely formatted and all artists' works photographed were acknowledged! That doesn't always happen in Verona at their festival and I am forever reminding them to write the artist's name. It is important!!

Thanks to these kinds of very professional exhibits, the textile art form is gaining legitimacy and importance in the art world. This festival has been running for over 20 years!

I received a gift this morning.

An unexpected present.

I spent yesterday with Dijanne Cevaal showing her around Verona and she was grateful...it was my pleasure! I LOVE Verona and I was interested in hearing about her textile adventures.

She gave me one of her lino-printed, hand-dyed fabrics. If you want one for yourself she does sell them through her blog. Her Medieval Project panels are similar and can be embroidered and embellished any way you want.

Lucky me.

I got an email from Australian textile artist and author, Dijanne Cevaal, who will be passing through Verona, Italy, next week.

We met in Parma, Italy, in 2011 and I haven't seen her since although we have emailed. I also signed up for an on-line course of hers.

I am looking forward to catching up and hearing all about her works and her adventures worldwide.

This man's turban measures over 16 metres in length.

Hand dyed with 57 pattern changes, coil resist.

inspirational mineral: Labradorite

There are so many beautiful images of minerals. I was particularly interested in representing a mineral found in Canada.

Looking for Labradorite

I liked the variety of colours of the Labradorite and the black lines showing fractures on the rocks.

I interpreted those straight lines as contour lines much like a geophysicist would do on a magnetic map.

Magnetic Maps

I have had MINERALS on the brain lately.

I am planning a Minerals exhibit for the beginning of March. The works from the selected artists have been coming in and they are beautiful.

Naturally, today's postcard looked like a magnetic map used for mineral exploration.

Dijanne Cevaal Made the Cover

I picked up a magazine in anticipation of my upcoming train ride to Montreal.

My friend Dijanne's work has made the cover of the latest Quilting Arts magazine.

They have a good article about her- she's in the Spotlight.

Last spring, I signed up for her on-line travel blanket course. I am sorry to say I have not finished the work. I had planned to stitch during the summer but that never happened. I still will get it done. It will look great. Her on-line class was really fun to do! Here is another look at my blanket.
