Tips (tip #1)

I imagine most of you are doing more quilting than usual as we all stay home and isolate.

When I teach, I sprinkle my classes with lots of tips to help my fellow quilters. 

I plan to share these with you on my blog over the next few weeks.

Tip #1

When sewing a binding strip to the quilt, it is best done using the walking foot. That's because of the thickness. Using a walking foot will ensure all layers (top, batting, backing) feed into the machine together.

Friday's Fun

I can't believe the Canadians arrived a week ago. They have enjoyed their time discovering the city of Verona and the italian ways.

Today, we started with a workshop at the Bernina station in Loggia Barbaro. All 5 travellers participated.

We had lunch at Osteria Al Duomo. Not everyone wanted to try the horse meatballs!

We had a class with Patrizia Girlanda at one of the apartments. We learned a hand piecing technique used my the Miao people of southern China.

 Tomorrow is the last day so everyone has a list of things they want to do. I told them they could sleep when they get home!

My New Singer

Well, it isn't really new. It was my grandfather's industrial machine.

It got some TLC (tender loving care) this week.

Fred from Shamrock Sewing Machines made a house call, got it into shape and gave me a lesson on how to use it!

I remember my grandfather using it when I hung out at his tailor shop on Saturday afternoons after ballet class.

I loved looking through the sample books.

I think the thing I will like the best on this machine is the bobbin winder.

 It is where he use to hang his cigarette while he sewed.
 He use to forget it and it use to burn the wood. I remember that, too.

My grandmother will be so happy when I call and tell her I'm using it! I'll be seeing her this weekend in Montreal.
