Inside Grand Palais for the Art Paris Art Fair

 Imagine me walking around with my mouth open soaking in everything! 

I was at the Art Paris Art Fair for 4 hours yesterday and didn't even get to see everything! (I had to leave because the bakeries were closing and I needed a baguette for dinner!)

I stopped to talk to many art dealers that were exhibiting textile work. What insightful conversations!

I learned so much about specific international textile artists and about consumer behaviour towards textile medium.

plastic bags, plastic ties.

I got a chance to promote some of the Canadian textile artists who in my opinion do spectacular work.

There are some that say it is better to be in your own corner to be able to design/ create how you want  and not be influenced by the same things that are influencing others in your field (article from B of F) and I agree but right now I am finding it exhilarating to be surrounded by art of all mediums in the great City of Light.

I will be posting more about textile artists I discovered at this event.

Taking Down the Exhibit

It took 2.5 hours to take the 35 pieces down and fold them and pack them up in my car!

It took 21 hours to hang everything way back in November!!

Tradition in Transition had a good run, I think.

There was so much interest about Tradition in Transition in the french press; newspapers and magazines.

Her work is spectacular. She is known for her miniatures.

There is also silk ribbon embroidery in this one.

Both works shown above are in her latest 64-page book, Les Quilts Miniatures, published by Les Editions de Saxe, who just celebrated their 50th anniversary. (I'd like to add that they hosted an amazing party at the Tearte in Ste-Marie-aux-Mines.)

I was so busy with my own exhibit that, unfortunately, I was only able to dedicate 10 minutes to two exhibits, hers being one of the them.

Every bit of publicity is great! I am a member of Quilt Italia through Ad Maiora (Verona) and often teach at their national conferences and in the country in general. I hope with this article many from Italy will make the trip up to France to see the wonderful Canadian works. Hopefully, my friends and students will come and see ME!

The Canadian Quilter magazine

Grab yourselves the latest issue of The Canadian Quilter, a Canadian Quilter Association publication. Many quilt guilds subscribe to it. It has a readership of 20,000 and is the only purely quilting magazine in Canada.

They have printed a 4-page article with pictures about the France show I am curating.

They are also going to do two more stories; one this summer and another one, more of a report, after the exhibit.
